Reiki (pronounced "ray-key") is a simple, oriental method of working with energy to put your mind and body into balance. Reiki is used to facilitate healing from mental/emotional and physical symptoms, and illnesses.
When "attuned" to Reiki you can use it for the benefit of yourself, or others. In the Original System, founded by Mikao Usui, Reiki was very much about working with the energy for your own self-healing, self-development and spiritual development. Since coming to the West, Reiki has become more focused as a treatment technique.
It is very important that practitioners keep up with their own self healing and energy exercises so they can be as clear a channel to the energy as possible.
One of the most incredible things about Reiki, when compared to other complementary therapies, is that Reiki will continue to flow as strongly at the end of a day full of treatments, as it will at the beginning. This is because it is not the practitioner's own personal energy that is being used. The energy is literally coming from a universal, infinite source. The practitioner is merely a conduit for the energy. Many practitioners actually find themselves completely invigorated and full of energy at the end of a busy day treating people and animals - I know I do!
Reiki is an "intelligent" energy - meaning, it knows where it needs to go to put the person/animal into emotional/physical balance. There is no need to diagnose in order to treat somebody with Reiki and I would stress that Reiki is not a diagnostic treatment.
My intuition will guide me to places where Reiki is wanting to flow but it is not my place to diagnose or suggest treatment. If you have any concern at all about yourself, or your animal then please consult a doctor or vet.
Reiki works absolutely beautifully alongside both conventional and other complementary therapies.
Who Can Benefit From A Reiki Treatment?
As Reiki is such a gentle and safe method of healing, any person, or animal, can benefit from treatment.
Some people use Reiki as a means to handle life events with more ease, some for physical healing, some to facilitate better sleeping, or some just receive treatment to get some "down" time and relax. Whatever your reason, Reiki will always be for your highest healing good.
I have experienced treating a range of conditions with great results being seen in quite a short space of time. These include:-
- Stress/Tension - Anxiety - Depression - Insomnia - Pre and Post Op Recovery
Physical symptoms can sometimes take a bit longer to deal with (although not always), but myself and others have found Reiki to be successful dealing with the following, and more besides:-
- Sports Injuries - Long Term Pain, i.e. Back Pain - Rheumatism/Arthritis - Low Energy Levels - M.E. - M.S.
What To Expect From a Reiki Treatment
For a Reiki Treatment you will usually be lying supine on a therapy bed (if this is not comfortable for you, you can lie on your side, or even sitting in a chair if you don't wish to lie down). You remain fully clothed - although it's best to take your shoes off to be truly comfortable on the bed. Your body temperature can drop slightly during Reiki treatments, so I would normally cover you with a blanket (apart from in warm weather when this is not necessary). I put some gentle, relaxing music on. You close your eyes and relax - just allow me to channel the energy to you through my hands.
I use my intuition to guide me to where my hands need to go - some areas I will gently place my hands on you, and at other times I would keep my hands a few inches away in the interests of propriety/comfort.
Some people feel a lot of heat coming from my hands, occasionally they feel it as cold. Sometimes the energy can feel like pressure, buzzing or tingling. Some people just feel very relaxed, in a meditative state. Whatever you feel, rest assured that Reiki is in there doing what it needs to do for your highest healing good.
The majority of people will actually fall asleep at some point during their treatment - this is perfectly normal and can even help the flow of Reiki to the person as they reach their ultimate relaxation state!
It is thought that an hour of Reiki is equivalent to four hour's sleep.
After a Treatment
Usually you would be very relaxed and calm after a Reiki treatment. Often people find themselves with a renewed energy and lust for life. Many people report having the best night's sleep after Reiki treatments - and a feeling of their head having been "spring cleaned".
I always advise that clients take their time before getting off the bed and not to drive until they feel full aware and awake.
It is advisable to drink lots of water on the day of a Reiki treatment to help facilitate any toxins trying to leave the body.
Reiki is a complementary therapy and is not intended to replace medical or veterinary care and advice. Persons or animals needing medical/veterinary attention should call their doctor/Veterinary Surgery.
